From the bride:

Mike and I got engaged shortly after Christmas of 2014, and we immediately knew we didn’t want a super long engagement but also knew that we wanted an outdoor warm weather wedding which left us with limited options from a timing perspective. Mike is from Texas and I am from California so regardless of where we had the wedding one side would have needed to travel, so we began to get excited about the idea of a destination wedding and bringing everyone to a neutral location. We had been to Cabo before but had no special attachment to the location, but what’s not to love about it: the weather, the ocean, the food, it was all right up our alley. Not everyone was on board with the destination wedding but I knew no matter what we did we weren’t going to please everyone so we decided that we were going to do whatever made us happy. Honestly, planning my wedding was far easier than I had expected, thanks in part to Bonnie and her team. Most people wouldn’t use the words calm or laid back to describe me but I had an overwhelming sense that everything would work out perfectly and it did (my mom still talks about how calm I was through the whole process).

Flash forward to 7 weeks before the big day, we woke up to news of Hurricane Odile sweeping across the Baja California peninsula. To be honest, the news coverage was not very good, or perhaps too good at covering up the total destruction that had occurred. Our first thoughts were with our vendors and making sure they and their families were all ok. Once they were accounted for (and all ok, thank goodness!) we began to come to grips with the immediate need to decide on if the wedding could go on or not (remember my previous statement about how calm I was, well scratch that). I started to make back up plans, contact new venues, and email guests to just hold out a little bit longer. At the end of the day I just knew that the wedding wouldn’t be the same should we have decided to move locations.

Therefore, Mike and I gave ourselves a deadline – keep in mind our hotel still didn’t have an opening date and the airport was still closed – and we decided we were moving forward with our original plans, even if that meant it would be just us two on a barren beach.

The Cabo community showed incredible resilience and worked tirelessly to rebuild their area, starting with the tourist areas even before their own homes. Our hotel opened the week we arrived and sure they were still doing work, but everyone greeted us with open arms and friendly smiles. I knew the second we arrived that we had made the right choice in keeping our wedding in Cabo.

Our wedding weekend was nothing short of spectacular! Over 70 friends and family made the trip to Cabo to celebrate with us, most people staying for almost a week. The days leading up to the big day were filled with a huge welcome dinner on the beach with wish lanterns, deep sea fishing trips, drinks by the pool, and the mixing and mingling of friends and family. Bonnie and her team did everything to make our weekend as seamless as possible that includes collecting clothes for the bride who forgot her luggage at the airport (whoops!).

The details of the wedding turned out more beautiful and elegant than I could have ever imagined.
After the hurricane supplies in Cabo were limited, aside from the things I lugged from Los Angeles, everything else was more or less thrown together, but in the best way possible! One word to describe our wedding was UNFORGETABLE! Our friends and family had the time of their lives (who knew our family could dance like that!) and are still talking about the amazing time they had and how it was the most incredible wedding they had ever been to (and asking if we can do it again for our anniversary). Thank goodness for our photographer Sara Richardson for capturing all the memories, even the ones from late night (not our greatest look). It was a day we will cherish forever and can now continue to relive through their work. That won’t be the last Cabo sees of us!
